Kathmandu, February 4:

A group of 12 armed persons looted property worth about Rs 600,000 from the rented flat of Prabin Joshi, Sub-Inspector of Police at the Gaushala-based Metropolitan Police Section, at Saraswotinagar in Bouddha early this morning, police said.

According to the police, Joshi was in the house when the looting took place. The looters made away with 25 tolas of gold and Rs 35,000 in cash.

The gang, armed with Khukuris, overpowered all the tenants — Gopal Gelal, Prem Gelal and Bhima Upreti — and made away with the booty.

“Joshi had called us when the looting was taking place in the house. Our police team reached the area three times but they could not locate the house,” an official at the police station said. At Jorpati, an armed gang looted Rs 42,000 and 8 tolas of gold from a hotel owned by Indra Limbu early this morning, police said.

The looters broke the main gate of the hotel and made away with cash and valuables. Investigations into both the incidents are on, the police added.
