No deadline extension
BIRATNAGAR: Leaders of eight political parties, in a meeting held at district election office here on Tuesday, decided not to extend the time to update the voters’ list in Morang district. Although collecting voters’ name and updating was fixed for the period from January 23 to February 6, the Madhes bandh had severely affected the related works. District election officer Mahesh Raj Timsina said the duration to for updating the voters’ list could have been extended but the political parties were against it. — HNS
NC meet held
KATHMANDU: Parliamentary party executive committee of the Nepali Congress on Tuesday held a meeting at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s official residence in Baluwatar. Koirala presided over the meeting. Issue of calling meeting of parliamentary committee was discussed in the meeting. Earlier in the day, Ram Chandra Poudel, general secretary of the Nepali Congress, issued a press statement condemning the statement made by King Gyanendra on the Democracy Day. — HNS
Ex-Maoist abducted
BIRGUNJ: Maoist cadres on Tuesday abducted Gopal Prasad Kurmi, general secretary of the Republican Rastriya Madhesi Morcha Gopal Prasad Kurmi from Birgunj. He was abducted from a press conference he had organised at the Parsa chapter of Federation of Nepalese Journalist to tell that Maoists had threatened to abduct him. — HNS
