KATHMANDU: Internationally renowned Norwegian jazz band Motif is here to entertain the Valley people as part of the Nepal Music Centre (NMC) JAZZ ‘07, which is a seven-day event scheduled to be held from March 16-23.
A press meet was held on March 15 on details about the event, which is being held as a cultural exchange programme supported by the Norwegian embassy.
Motif comprises five members — Atle Nymo (tenor saxophone/bassclarinet), Mathias Eick (trumpet), Haavard Wiik (piano), Ole Morten Vagan (bass) and Hakon Mjaset Johansen (drums). Johansen has visited Nepal during Jazzmandu festivals. On March 16, Motif will be give a concert for school children on NMC premises, free concerts at Khula Manch and Gokarna are planned for March 17 and 18 respectively. They will also be conducting music and sound workshop for Nepali musicians. Motif will also be performing at a ticketed event at Soltee Crowne Plaza.
At the press meet it was also informed that three Nepali musicians will be taking part in the annual Forde Festival of Norway from July 5-8. Artistes participating in the festival are Sanskriti Shrestha (tabla), Barta Gandarva (sarangi) and Rubin Krishna Shrestha (basuri).
