Once there lived a boy named Krishna. He was the only son of a rich merchant. Krishna had a monkey named Chintoo who he treated like a brother. They played, ate and even slept together.
However, Krishna’s father Mr Dhanbir did not like Chintoo and tried to keep the two apart.
Then one day while the two were playing in the fields, Krishna’s eyes were drawn to the dense green forest nearby. Though Mr Dhanbir had sent 15 servants to look after Krishna, he slipped into the forest with Chintoo.
In the forest, he climbed up a banyan tree and started swinging. Chintoo climbed up a banana plant and popped some bananas into his mouth. After a while Krishna climbed down, but someone put a hand over his mouth and took him away. Chintoo saw someone covering Krishna in black cloth and taking him away.
Chintoo was frightened but followed that person, who was a wizard. He had kidnapped Krishna to get more powers.
The wizard took Krishna to a small hut and locked him inside. There was a small window through which Chintoo squeezed himself in. Krishna was crying. Suddenly Chintoo got a bright idea. He took off Krishna’s shirt and wore it himself. He then hid Krishna in a corner.
Chintoo came out of the room to see the wizard boiling water and mixing the blood of animals in a big cauldron. When he went inside to get Krishna, he got furious when he couldn’t see the boy. Meanwhile, Chintoo poured oil on the floor. The wizard turned around, and slipped on the floor and dashed against the cauldron full of boiling blood-water.
As the wizard was howling in pain, Chintoo and Krishna escaped.
At home, Krishna told how Chintoo had saved his life. Mr Dhanbir was very pleased with Chintoo, and as a reward he gave the clever monkey five dozen bananas.
