Water project finished

DAMAULI: A drinking water project under solar power system has been completed at Kihun VDC-6, Darkang, a remote part of the district. The drinking water project has been carried for Rs 4.5 million. 99 solar panels have been installed and water from Simalinan river has been lifted up to 100 metres. 230 villagers of 46 households are expected to be benefited from the project. — RSS

Russian bid for WTO

MOSCOW: European Union Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson urged rapid completion of Russia’s long-delayed entry to the World Trade Organisation. In Moscow for talks on the issue, Mandelson called for compromise on all sides to seal membership for Russia. — AFP

EU formulates rules

BRUSSELS: EU finance ministers agreed a plan to make cross-border payments easier throughout the 27-nation bloc and set new rules to limit political interference in banking takeovers. Banks have already promised by 2010 to make payments in 13-nation euro area as easy, as fast and as cheaply as domestic payments made in cash and by credit and debit cards. — AP
