Dilendra wins G-5
KATHMANDU: Dilendra Kumar Shrestha became a lucky draw winner of the ‘Play and Win’ contest run by Morang Auto Works during the Martyrs Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League. Along with six G5 motorcycles for the best individuals of the league, the company had announced a G5 for a spectator, to guess the winners of the six best individuals of the league. The 30-year-old from Naradevi became the lucky ones among the 336 correct entries. In all, 15,568 had entered the contest, said Morang Auto Works. — HNS
Tenzing to scale Everest
KATHMANDU: Tashi Wangchuk Tenzing, grandson of Tenzing Norgay, is planning to climb the Mt Everest for the third time on April 1. After successfully climbing the world’s highest peak twice from South pole, Tenzing will this time attempt from the North pole (Tibet) following the footsteps of his grandfather, one of the two persons to touch the Everest for the first time on May 29, 1953. Brand Ambassador of the Vaidya’s Organisation of Industries and Trading Houses (VOITH), Tenzing will carry the the Nepali national flag along with the company banner bearing a logo of Toyota motors. A sister organisation of VOITH, United Traders Syndicate Pvt Ltd is the authorised dealer of the Toyota motors in Nepal. President of the VOITH Suraj Vaidya handed over the banner to Tenzing at a programme on Monday. Vaidya said he chose Tenzing the brand ambassador to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. — HNS
Keshari wins 400m
KATHMANDU: Keshari Chaudhary won the women’s 400m race with the timing of 1:04.07 while Santu Kumal claimed the women’s junior 100m title and Mahalaxmi Joshi won the 5,000m race at the first National Republic Sports Festival. Parasu Kunwar beat Suran Soti in the 45kg Karate final. Winners in other karate events were Rajesh Chaudhary (50kg), Ujjwol Subedi (55kg), Nabin Karki (65kg) and Ganesh Bahadur Thing (kata). — HNS
Bista, Basnet in final
LALITPUR: Deepak Bista and Max Basnet entered the 81kg final at the Nationwide Open Boxing Championship on Monday. Other finalists were Devendra Maharjan, Ratna Maharjan (69kg), Man Bahadur Shahi, Sushil Ghimire (64kg), Ajit Gurung, Rajendra Singh (60kg), Purna Bahadur Lama, Dinesh Shrestha (57kg), Gopal Shrestha, Puran Rai (54kg), Anil Dahal, Bal Krishna Maharjan (51kg), and Laxman Silakar, Laxman Saud (48kg). The finals will be held on Tuesday. — HNS
