ILAM: Community empowerment programme is set to be launched in all VDCs of Ilam district to make people aware about constituent assembly. Altogether 22 organisations of the district will work for creating awareness among the people of their respective areas on various issues of the constituent assembly, said Khiba Raj Dahal, chairman of Sungava Development Organisation. The empowerment programme will be launched in 13 districts of eastern region and 3 districts of the central region. — RSS

Party registration

Kathmandu: Election Commissioner Nilkanath Upreti today said the commission would start accepting registration of political parties in a day or two. Talking to mediapersons at a programme on election and democracy on Tuesday. The poll preparation process gained momentum after the interim parliament passed the Election Commission Bill 2007 and Election (Crime and Punishment) Bill 2007 on Monday. — HNS

Ox kills man

KANCHANPUR: One Achhe Lal Yadav of Prasahi Tole of Jamuni Madhepura-3 of Saptari district died on Tuesday when an ox knocked him down while he was grazing cattle. He died while undergoing treatment at his house, as he was unconscious after the ox knocked him down, family sources said. — RSS

Youth missing in river

GAJURI: Arjun Dhungana of Nepalganj-9 went missing while swimming in Trisuli river on Monday. According to the Area Police Office in Gajuri, 19-year-old Dhungana went missing as he drowned while swimming in Trisuli river at Bange village. — RSS

One arrested

CHARIKOT: Police on Tuesday arrested Kedar Bahadur Phuyal, 20, of Lakuridanda VDC in Dolakha on charge of murdering Naina Kumari Baskota of the same VDC on March 22. “Phuyal was arrested with the help of locals following a complaint filed by Nabaraj, Naina’s son, in the Dolakha District Police Office,” said sub-inspector Krishna Bahadur Rana. One Tilhari belonging to the deceased woman was recovered from his pocket, police said. — HNS

Elderly found dead

POKHARA: Eighty-two-year-old Debaki Humagain of Dhikurpokhari VDC in Kaski, who had been missing since March 19, was found dead in a pond at Chapakot VDC on Tuesday, police said. Her body was floating in water. The body was handed over to her relatives after a post-mortem. Meanwhile, one Ramesh Pun Magar, a worker, has gone missing after he skidded off the road while constructing Beni-Jomsom road section and plunged into Kali Gandaki river on Monday, police said. — HNS
