Private groups not allowed, says BCCI

New Delhi, April 4:

The Indian cricket board will not allow any private group to organize a multimillion-dollar cricket series competing games run by the board, an official said on Wednesday.

Lalit Modi, a board vice president, was reacting to Essel Group Chairman Subash Chandra’s announcement on Tuesday that he will start a new cricket tournament in India later this year in twenty20 format, involving Indian and foreign players.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to receive Chandra’s proposal,” Modi said. If the proposal is received, they would look at whether the organizers want to be part of the BCCI system or organize a breakaway series, he said. “A parallel series would not be allowed,” Modi said.
