Kathmandu, April 15:
Janajati organisations today postponed the indefinite Valley blockade, which was scheduled to begin from tomorrow. They warned that the organisations will organise the blockade in 15 days if the government does not pay heed to their demands.
The move came after the government talks team called the bodies for talks.
“The special meeting of the agitating Janajati organisations held here today has decided to postpone the indefinite Valley blockade scheduled from April 16. The decision was taken in response to repeated calls from the government side and also from the people, civil society and human rights organisations,” stated a release issued by five different Janajati organisations today. The organisations include Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), Indigenous Nationalities Joint Struggle Committee, National Indigenous Women’s Federation, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Students (NEFINS) and the Indigenous Nationalities Youth Association.
The meeting also called on the government not to go for the second amendment to the interim constitution. It said the amendment should be made after consulting all the agitating parties.
General secretary of the NEFINS Bhupendra Pulami Magar said the Janajati organisations will organise the indefinite Valley blockade after 15 days if the government does not heed to the demands put forth by the agitating bodies of the indigenous nationalities.
