Govt, Norway sign project agreement

Kathmandu, May 4:

The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare and Save the Children, Norway, today signed a three-year Partnership Agreement on Elimination of Chhaupadi System in Achham and an agreement on Strengthening Child Protection System from village to the national level, a statement issued by Save the Children, Norway, today said.

The first project will be implemented by the Department of Women Development and the District Women Development Office in Achham district, while the second one will be implemented by the Central Child Welfare Board and the District Child Welfare Board in 25 districts, the statement said.

It added that the first project was developed on the basis of a baseline study on Chhaupadi system that was conducted in 12 VDCs of Accham, Bajura and Doti in 2006. The second project was developed and implemented from October 2003.

Based on the findings and recommendations of the mid-term review and in the changed political context, this project has been prioritised by the ministry and is being extended for the coming three years in 25 districts of five development regions.
