Biratnagar, May 9:
Nepali Congress vice-president Sushil Koirala today alleged that the Constituent Assembly polls were being delayed due to the activities of the Maoist-aligned Young Communist League (YCL).
Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day sixth central general convention of the Nepal Financial Organisation Employees’ Association here, Koirala said, “A conducive environment for the CA polls has not been created because of the activities of the YCL cadres.”
Saying that the YCL cadres were violating the 12-point agreement reached among the eight parties, Koirala urged the Maoists to abide by the agreement in letter and spirit.
Koirala added that because of their continuing atrocities the Maoists were losing the people’s support. He stressed on the need for implementing the 12-point agreement effectively in the present context.
He said the ongoing violent activities of the Maoists prove that they still want to capture the state by force. “Nepalis will not tolerate any kind of autocracy now,” Koirala said, adding, “The Maoists should immediately stop the atrocities being perpetrated by the YCL.”
Koirala said the problems among the eight political parties are self-created.
Saying that the unity of the eight political parties should remain intact, Koirala urged the parties to build an environment of trust.
Speaking on the occasion, former finance minister and NC central member Mahesh Acharya said the Maoists were violating the interim constitution’s preamble. He urged them to win people’s hearts by stopping their atrocities.
