Kathmandu, May 10:

Minister for Health and Population (MoHP) Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, in the capacity of pro-chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), today filled major positions of the academy that were lying vacant for the last 10 months.

Dr Bijaya Kumar Sharma has been appointed the rector of the academy, Dr Shree Krishna Giri the registrar, Dr Bramhadev Jha the dean and Dr Madhav Dahal an executive council member of the NAMS.

The minister also summoned the meeting of the senate on June 4. The senate is the highest governing body of the NAMS. The academy was facing problems due to absence of top officials. The vice chancellor was appointed two months ago.

Vice-chancellor Dr Bishwa Raj Dali said the decision would end the ongoing agitation of the resident doctors in the academy.

“We are hopeful there will no longer be any protest in the hospital in future,” he said.

Dr Gopesh Thakur, president of the Resident Association of the NAMS, said: “We are ready to end the strike immediately after the hospital solves the problem of anaesthetics.”
