Irrigation project

UDAYPUR: NESPEC, Udaypur has launched easy drop irrigation project in the dry region of Udaypur district for farmers. Under the micro-irrigation project for livelihood, model irrigation projects will be launched in ward numbers 12 and 13, in Chilawune VDC and Triyuga municipality in an area of 13 kathhas of land. The project is being launched as a model project with financial assistance of DFID and technical assistance of Asian Development Bank and the irrigation department. Under the simple irrigation programme, every farmer is given Rs 1,500, with Rs 500 as grant and Rs 1,000 as loan. — RSS

LONDON: News and financial group Reuters is to be bought by Canadian media group Thomson in a deal worth some $17.23 billion, which will create the world’s biggest financial news and data group. The takeover is backed by the Reuters Founders Share Co, which could have blocked a takeover if it thought Reuters editorial independence was at risk. — DPA
