NASA’s new space telescope

NASA’s new space telescope

By Agencies

The American space agency NASA is showing a model of a new telescope that experts say will be able to take the best pictures of distant galaxies. The massive machine, which is set to cost more than £2 billion, will replace the Hubble telescope which is getting old and worn.

Called the JWST, the telescope will sit farther from Earth and have a giant mirror which will allow it to see more. The telescope will last for 10 years after it’s launched in 2013. JWST stands for James Webb Space Telescope, named after James Webb, who worked for Nasa.

The JWST will be three times bigger than the Hubble and is going to be positioned 1.5 million kms from Earth. The model of the new telescope is being shown outside a space museum in Washington, US.
