Kathmandu, May 25:
Nepal Economics Association (NEA) today released two books by eminent economists.
Finance minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat today released the books entitled ‘Nepal’s Conflict: A Micro Impact Analysis on Economy’ by Prof Bishwambher Pyakuryal and Rabi S Sainju and ‘Samjhana Ra Bichar’ by Dr Badri Prasad Shrestha.
“Of these two books, the first book focuses on the impact of conflict at micro level from basic service delivery to quest for livelihood at household levels,” said Dr Madan Kumar Dahal, professor of economics at the TU, commenting on the book. “While the second book is basically a memoir of an economist, planner and scholar,” he added.
“The first book has revealed the micro-level picture of the cost of conflict and suggested some policy recommendations to mitigate its impact,” said
Prof Dahal, adding that the Maoist movement in Nepal was instigated by two major elements — inequalities of the socio-economic structure and the volatile and non-inclusive nature of Nepali politics.
Speaking on the occasion, finance minister Mahat said that there is no alternative in brining the economic agenda into central developmental agenda, if the country wants to develop in post-conflict era.
Dr Badri Prasad Shrestha, former finance minister and the author of Samjhana Ra Bichar, said that it is his personal memoirs.
