Flintoff ruled out

LONDON: England allrounder Andrew Flintoff has been ruled out of the second Test against West Indies due to an ankle injury. The Test match starts from Friday at Headingley in Leeds. Flintoff has had two operations on his left ankle in the past three years. He was out for most of England’s summer last year, returning as captain for the ICC Champions Trophy and the Ashes Test. — AP

PARIS: Tatiana Golovin of France and Peng Shuai of China have pulled out of the French Open because of injury, organizers said. Golovin, ranked 17th, has failed to recover from a right-foot injury picked up during Fed Cup play last month, while 32nd-ranked Peng has a left ankle injury, the French tennis federation said. — AP

Kid to defy govt ban

Bhubaneshwar: A five-year-old Indian boy who once attempted a 70-km marathon will defy a government decision to ban him from a long-distance walk, his coach Biranchi Dassaid. Budhia Singh will, however, reduce his walk to 100-km, while his supporters will cover the entire 500-km from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata, Das said.— AP
