His interest, commitment and dedication towards the contemporary music in Nepal are beyond comparison. To salute such maestro, Nepalaya had organised an evening with Gayak Phatteman in its first edition of the third Paleti series on May 25.
After retiring from the commercial music scene at the age of 66, he is back again on popular demand. His new album Gayak Phatteman 70 ma was also released at the event. At the gathering at, Gayak Phatteman entertained the guests present with some new songs of his new album and some of his classic hits.
The evening saw the who’s who of music industry including the foreign diplomats. It was a heart-warming experience to see many artistes of yesteryear present at the venue to support and enjoy the one of the greatest Nepali musicians.
Popular for singing songs on every walk of life, Gayak Phatteman’s songs are usually on pain, love, hope and hardship. His old age has not hampered the quality of his voice, which still is capable of holding the audience spellbound with its depth and pain that each one present there could relate to.
The singer also did not fail in keeping the environment light and easy with his humour and wit from time to time. The music for his new album is arranged by Aavas, blending the music of yesterday and today giving us a timeless musical gift.
Gayak Phatteman performed tragic songs from his new album like Timro Tasbir (lyrics by Bikram Subba), Kurnu Kuri Sake Pachi (lyrics by Manjul), Rit Bina Aune Sapana Haru Lai (lyrics by Arjun Sapkota), Kina Auncha Purana Kura (lyrics by Aavash), Hijo Aaja (lyrics by Banira Giri) and a song on social issue of untouchables Jutta (by Tirtha Shrestha) in the first half of the evening.
