MPs discuss West Seti project

By Himalayan News Service

Kathmandu, June 7:

Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat today urged members of the interim parliament to support the government to strike a deal on the 750-MW West Seti Hydro Electricity Project.

The government is in the final stage to ink an agreement with the Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation (SMEC), an Australian multi-national company.

Addressing a meeting at Parliamentary Natural Resource Committee, Mahat said beginning of works in the 750 MW West Seti would help attract more foreign investment in mega projects in Nepal.

Whether to demand 10 per cent energy or equivalent cash from the project developer has been a topic of debate for long.
