Kathmandu, June 24:

A group of five unidentified persons yesterday night looted cash and valuables from the house of Prem Bandhu Pokharel, an inspector at the Metropolitan Police Range.

Pokharel was in the house when the incident took place at Sanobharyan-15, near Soyambu, police said today.

“The group, armed with khukuris, broke into my house and overpowered all of us. I only noticed them when they placed a khukuri on my neck and asked me to hand over my gun,” Aryal told this daily.

“They didn’t insist further when I told them that I kept my pistol in the office,” he said.

The group decamped with Rs 100,000, 12 tolas of gold, three mobile phone sets and two wrist watches from the house, he said, adding that he had borrowed the money from the neighbours to have a drainage system repaired.

Also yesterday, three unidentified persons shot at Rajendra Karki, a tea shop owner, and made away with property worth Rs 76,000 from his tea shop, police said.

According to the police, the trio, which came on a motorcycle without a plate number, opened fire at Karki and thrashed his 45-year-old mother, Kalu Karki. Karki and his mother are undergoing treatment in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, police said.

Karki sustained injuries on his right leg when the unidentified persons opened fire.

Investigations in the two cases are on, the police said.
