Kathmandu, June 24:
General secretary of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, said today that the party’s 15th central committee meeting would focus on the constituent assembly election scheduled for November 22.
Addressing the meeting that began today at the party headquarters in Balkhu, Nepal said all must devout their time and energy for the much-awaited assembly election as it would shape the future of the nation.
“We all and the people must help create an atmosphere conducive to holding the constituent assembly election; any general strike and other agitations such as bandh must stop and law enforcing bodies must be strengthened at their optimum level,” Nepal said.
Stressing the need to maintain the eight-party unity till a new constitution has been made, Nepal said that more and more foreign observers should be invited to ensure free and fair assembly election.
“Friendly nations such as India, Japan and United States and the European Union have expressed their commitment to extend assistance for free and fair election. We must provide all kinds of moral and logistics support to the security agencies so that they can maintain law and order,” he said.
Chief of the UML’s publicity department, Raghuji Pant, said that the assembly election would be the main agenda of the six-day top-level meeting. Pant said that all the central committee members would present written reports about the party’s position in all the districts while Nepal would present a political report on national situation and the party’s responsibility.
Pant further said that the 15th central committee meeting of the party would also discuss the timing of holding the party’s eight national convention, either before the assembly polls or afterwards.
The meeting is also expected to reshuffle responsibilities of the leaders who have joined the government and of those who were called back from the previous government.
The meeting also wished speedy recovery of central committee member Bidhya Bhandari, who has been undergoing medical treatment in India for the last two months.
