Pokhara, July 14:
“It had rained all night. While lighting a cigarette, I heard the sound of stones rolling and trees crashing. The landslide swept the village before I could sound an alert to the villagers,” Devi Buda, 60, who was swept away by a landslide that occurred in Dhawa of Gaulichaur VDC-1, said.
She has been undergoing treatment in the Pokhara-based Western Regional Hospital (WRH).
“The landslide swept me away as I came out of my home to inform the people about the disaster,” she said, adding that the landslide that occurred at 2:45 am yesterday swept away six members of her family along with the house.
“I do not know how many people died. Locals rescued the survivors from trees and bank of the river”, she said.
However, her husband survived the landslide.
Another injured, Meena Sunar of Gaulichaur VDC-1, has also been admitted to the WRH. Kharka Bahadur, Meena’s husband, said, “Our settlement has turned into a desert.”
“I lost five of my family members in the landslide,” he said. Twelve people injured in the landslide are undergoing treatment in the WRH.
