Limbuwan bandh hits Mechi, Koshi zones

A bandh called by Limbuwan and Khumbuwal Rajyaparisad (LKR), demanding ethnic autonomy and self-determination today affected life in nine eastern hilly districts in Mechi and Koshi zones.
Life in Panchthar, Ilam, Taplejung and Terhathum districts was badly affected.
Vehicle stayed off the road on Ilam-Phidim and Phidim-Taplejung roads due to the blockade. Educational institutions were also remained closed.
However, no untoward incident occurred during the bandh, Panchthar DSP Mukti Shrestha said.
Meanwhile, a report from Jhapa said, Chandragadhi, Birtamod, Bhadrapur, Damak and Dhulabari bazaar remained close and the agitators disrupted history and accounts examinations of the Proficiency Certificate Level first year in the Mechi Multiple Campus in Chandragadhi.
Examination in the Kankai Secondary School was also disrupted. The agitators also vandalised a van that didn’t have ‘Limbuwan State’ written on it in Birtamod, Birtamod Area Police Office said. A report from Dhankuta said the bandh affected the district partially. Though vehicles did not ply on the Koshi Highway, they plied in Dhankuta.
