OPD services halted at Manipal Hospital

Pokhara, July 20:

All services except emergency were halted at the Manipal Teaching Hospital today after a relative of a patient manhandled one of the physicians .

Services in the hospital were halted after a physician was manhandled by a relative of a patient Krishna Bahadur Thapa of Lamachaur, the hospital administration said.

After the incident, the hospital stopped registration of new patients from 9:00 am and stopped OPD services, Bishnu Prasad Dhakal, an administrative staff at the hospital, said.

Due to the disruption of OPD services, hundreds of patients returned home today.

Although an understanding was reached between the hospital administration, physicians and relatives of the patient, physicians have refused to return to work demanding security, police inspector at the Rambazaar ward police office Binod Ghimire said.

Another round of talks aimed at resolving the problem is going on.
