Kathmandu, July 24:

A hundred freed Kamaiyas were arrested today and freed in the evening as they continued their agitation by staging a sit-in in front of the south gate of Singhadurbar.

The freed Kamaiyas have been demanding immediate rehabilitation.

Dilli Chaudhari, a freed Kamaiya, threatened to bring life in the Western Development Region to a halt if the scheduled meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Land Reforms and Management (MoLRM) for tomorrow will not produce any results.

The meeting held between MoLRM representatives and the ex-Kamaiyas yesterday ended inconclusively.

Their scheduled meeting with the MoLRM could not be held today due to the civil servants’ pen-down.

During the sit-in protest today, they also demanded the resignation of Minister for Land Reforms and Management Jagat Bahadur Bogati.

Sunil Pratap Singh, under secretary of the MoLRM, told this daily that the ministry is all set to hold dialogue with the ex-Kamaiyas tomorrow.

The government will give them in writing an assurance that their demands would be addressed, Singh said.

Ex-Kamaiyas from Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur have been organising different programmes in Kathmandu since last week.
