The government’s effort to expand Information Technology (IT) in the country and bring foreign investment by building the first IT Park have been affected as the park is not in operation these days.

According to Manohar Kumar Bhattarai, full time member of the High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT), they are presently conducting interactions with the experts, government and donor agencies to improve the condition of the park so as to come up with new plans in the near future.

He also admitted that the park has made significant progress, but refused to declare when would it start functioning.

Bhattarai said the country’s political situation is unfavourable to the park. “International companies invest to gain profit, but our political situation is so fragile.”

He added that some problems of the park might impact the chances of foreign companies willing to come here. According to the HLCIT, the responsible body to maintain the park, no international companies have shown keenness in operating in the park. After a long endeavour, the Netherlands-based Javra Software Company, started its operation in 2006, but it left the park in June 2007, complaining that they could not get proper Internet connectivity in the park. Ever since, the Banepa-based park, having space for six IT companies, is left unoccupied.
