Kathmandu, January 31:

The Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal (PABSON) today said the pro-Maoist students wing’s threat to close down all private educational institutions from the next academic year had created confusion and uncertainty among parents, students and school organisers.

PABSON appealed to the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) to withdraw its announcement and let schools run freely in a conducive environment. A PABSON press release here today after its joint meeting with representatives of other stake-holders stated that the threat had posed a question mark over the future of students and the economic stability of parents who have invest so much in their children. “The indefinite educational strike, regular attack on private schools will speed up students’ exodus abroad for further study and a huge chunk of the country’s money will go out,” stated the release. PABSON appealed to civil society, governmental bodies and human right activists to urge the ANNISU-R to desist. The Community Schools’ Association (CSA) has also requested the pro-Maoist students not to play with the future of students.
