Ilam, August 31:

Students of the Saraswati Secondary School in Sulubung locked up all 17 teachers of the school, including headmaster Chetnath Niraula, in the school’s office for 17 hours — from 12 noon (Thursday) to 5 am (Friday) — saying that the teachers did not turn up at a programme organised on Wednesday to bid farewell to students of the higher secondary level who had come to the school for teaching practice.

The students also demanded that provisions be made in the school for library, laboratory and drinking water.

“We were locked up when we were holding talks with representatives of the students to settle the issue,” a teacher, Rommath Sharma, said.

The school management committee and guardians facilitated the release of the holed-up teachers at 5 am today, locals said.
