Juventus, Roma win

MILAN: Juventus needed a late winner from Giorgio Chiellini to beat Cagliari 3-2 in the Serie A on Sunday, and AS Roma cruised to a 3-0 victory over Siena. Chiellini scored in the 90th minute after Pasquale Foggia had twice equalised for Cagliari from the penalty spot. David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero got the Bianconeri’s other second-half goals. Alberto Aquilani, Ludovic Giuly and Francesco Totti scored for Roma. — AP

Ponting doubtful

Brisbane: Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting may miss the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa because of undisclosed family reasons. The Australian squad was due to leave for South Africa on Monday. Vice-captain Adam Gilchrist will lead the Australian squad and a decision on whether Ponting joins them for the tournament is expected later in the week. — AFP
