Seminar on LPG

BIRGUNJ: Authorised dealers for Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) have urged the need to put an outright halt to unauthorised selling of the petroleum product. The participants at a seminar on ‘sale of LPG’ organised by the Authorised Gas Dealers’ Association here on Sunday have asked the government for giving sole authority to them to safeguard their rights and interests as well as to deliver the product to consumers in a systematic manner. — RSS

Electricity lines extension

SINDHULI: Electricity transmission lines will be extended to eight VDCs including Ranibas, Nipana, Hatpata, Sirthauli, Horsoli, Tadi, Dhudhouli and Ladavir of Sindhuli and Kamalakhoch area within this year. A sum of Rs 51.5 million will be spent for extending the power line. About 80,000 people will benefit from the power extension. — RSS

Villagers benefit

SYANGJA: Nine VDCs of Syangja, Palpa, Gulmi and Parbat districts now have electricity in the villages generated from Kaligandaki hydro plant. A total of 2,297 households have been benefited from the electrification. The electrification is the part of the agreement signed by the project and peripheral VDCs. — RSS

Sugar, kerosene prices up

RANCHI: Prices of essential commodities are on the rise in Jharkhand, an Indian state, with sugar jumping from Rs 16 IC to Rs 23 IC per kg and kerosene going at Rs 22-27 IC per litre in some places despite a ration quota price of Rs 11 IC. Traders said the wholesale price of sugar was $33 per quintal last January. This year it had gone up to Rs 2,030 IC per quintal. Sugar was available at Rs 14 IC to Rs 15 IC a kg last January. — HNS

German jobless rate dips

BERLIN: The number of employed Germans rose in 2004, showing gains for the first time in three years. An average of 38.4 million people were employed in Germany in 2004 - 128,000 more than in 2003, or an increase of 0.3 per cent. It was the first year-on-year increase in employment since 2001. — AP
