The monthly gathering of photojournalists and enthusiasts that is organised by Photo.Circle at the Bakery Café, Sundhara had two special guests on September 22 — Evelien and Ruth, Project Managers of World Press Photo (WPP) from Amsterdam. A presentation about WPP was given along with the contests they hold each year for photojournalists. This was followed by a question and answer session.

As they are here to get information about the situation of photography in Nepal, a group discussion was also held to help them get a clearer view of the scenario.

The needs, challenges of photo journalists and the institutions/organisations providing trainings were discussed then.

Photographers talked about the lack of training, lack of a good platform, getting less importance than writers due to lack of visual literacy and many other problems they face.

To improve the condition they emphasised on the need for better technical knowledge, better skills to interact and make their works more marketable. Criteria for institutions/organisations in Nepal with whom WPP could have tie-ups to conduct trainings and workshops were also discussed.

They will be visiting various schools, colleges, media houses and organisations till September 25.
