Siraha, October 2:

All Nepal Transport Worker’s Association (ANTWA) today agreed to call off its indefinite transport strike in Siraha district which was in effect since yesterday, demanding the release of a transport worker arrested on Sunday.

According to Siraha chief district officer Siraha Bal Krishna Panthi, a talks between the administration officials and the representatives of ANTWA reached an agreement to release the arrested worker Shyam Yadav and to withdraw the strike.

Yadav was arrested and detained under the public offence act on the charge of manhandling ASI Kiran Prasain over a minor dispute. Police also claimed that tipsy Yadav had attempted to snatch weapons from Prasain. CDO Panthi, SP at the district police office, Mingmar Lama, Superintendent of Police Harish Chandra Adhikari of the APF base camp and ANTWA chairman Mohan Kumar Das attended the talks.

Earlier, thousands of passengers were stranded after the vehicular movement was brought to a standstill on the Mahendra highway.
