Some 10 lakh women in Nepal are suffering from uterine prolapse, says a study.

This was made public by the Sustainable Development Programme (SDP) and Environmental Agriculture and Development Centre (EADC) at an interaction in Birendranagar today.

Secretary of the EADC Samita Pradhan said the EADC works with women, who are suffering from uterine prolapse in 13 districts in Nepal.

Forty-four per cent of the 10 lakh women are from Mugu, 42 per cent from Saptari, 33 per cent from Surkhet, 30 per cent from Siraha, 28 per cent each from Bardiya and

Dailekh, 25 per cent each from Banke and Achham.

“Why is the government is not showing any concern at a time when 10 lakh of women are being affected by uterine prolapse?” Pradhan said.

Women suffering from uterus prolapse are keeping mum because they lack awareness and also fear the society, Pradhan said, adding, “The government can curb this problem by formulating relevant policies.”

Laxmi Pun of Jajarkot, Laxmi Sunar and Dilsara Sunar of Dailekh, who are suffering from uterine prolapse, spoke about their painful experiences.
