Kathmandu, October 14:
The government is now preparing to move ahead with land acquisition and the Build, Operate, On and Transfer (BOOT) plan for the construction of the second international airport at Nijgarh in Bara district.
“The government is seriously moving ahead with the BOOT and the detail project report for the construction of the second international airport at Bara. Negotiations are under way for land acquisition,” Bodh Raj Niraula, Joint-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation told this daily.
Earlier today, Finance Minister Ram Saran Mahat had also talked of moving ahead with the project, which has been in the pipeline for over two years now, and focussing on the infrastructure development plan for the proposed airport. It has been learnt that the people inhabiting the particular jungle area, proposed for the airport, have shown resentment towards the government proposal.
