Sarlahi, November 4:

People dwelling along the banks of Bagmati river in the western portion of Sarlahi district today staged a demonstration in Malangwa to protest alleged irregularities in the distribution of flood relief materials.

NSP cadre Ram Narayan Pandey said the people were peeved since some time at the irregularities committed in flood relief material distribution.

Raj Kishor Pandit, associated with the agency that distributed the flood relief materials sent by the World Food Programme, said the materials were distributed among genuine flood victims only. He said some villagers were angry because they were denied a chance to scoop up some free stuff.

Under the WFP programme for flood-hit, 2,356 families in 15 village development committees in Sarlahi were given relief.
