BEIJING: An early morning blaze at a foot massage parlour killed at least 11 people in northern China on Wednesday, a fire official said. The cause of the 2030 GMT fire at the Lantian Foot Massage Parlour on Tuesday was still under investigation, said a man at the Chengde county fire department in Hebei province, who refused to give his name. — AP

Ex-armyman indicted

TAIPEI: A retired top Taiwanese military intelligence officer has been indicted on charges of collecting and leaking classified information that was published in his book, officials said on Wednesday. Pang Ta-wei, a former deputy section chief of the Military Intelligence Bureau, was indicted on September 17, said Chen Jui, spokesman for the Prosecutors’ Office of the High Court. — AFP

One killed in J&K

SRINAGAR: Suspected Muslim rebels shot dead a prominent municipal councillor on Wednesday in the first political killing in Jammu and Kashmir’s main city this year, police said. Ghulam Nabi Wani, 53, was shot dead near his house by two militants in downtown Srinagar. — AFP
