Badminton

KATHMANDU: Samjhana Khaling, Nery Thapa, Susmita Gurung and Saraswoti Shakya won their respective women’s single matches at the fourth Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament, organised by the central sports committee of the Armed Police Force, here on Sunday. Winners in the U-19 boys’ singles includes Kishor Rana, Mohan Nepali, Bibek Shrestha, Ratnajit Tamang, Sahadev Khadka, Sajan Tamrakar, Raju Paneru and Dipak Bohara. Likewise, Sima Poudel, Mary Thapa, Amita Giri and Durga Magar also won their U-19 girls’ singles matches. In all, 466 shuttlers are taking part in the eight different categories. — HNS

Solidarity Course

KATHMANDU: The Gymnastic Solidarity Course began under the joint auspices of Nepal Olympic Committee and Nepal Gymnastic Association on Sunday. A total of 40 participants including five senior coaches, seven coaches and four assistant coaches are taking part in the 10-day course which is being conducted by Hungarian Gymnastic specialist and former Olympic medallist Ference Denath. — HNS

Training ends

KATHMANDU: The coaches and players’ training programme conducted by Nepal Archery Association under the programme of Asian Archery Development Project ended here on Sunday. In all, 30 coaches and players took part in the two-week course conducted by Henry De Manald of Philippines. — HNS

Deep Jyoti win

MADHYAPUR: Deep Jyoti School beat Rose Bud School 5-0 to enter the quarter-finals of the first Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament which has been organised by Madhyapur Youth Association on Sunday. Sunil Basnet struck twice, while Nirmal Shrestha, Khem Chhantyal and Bijay Maharjan scored one goal apiece. Sunil Basnet was named the man of the match. On Monday, Trungram International Academy will take on Kathmandu University School for the last spot in the quarter-finals. — HNS
