Kathmandu, November 20:
Maoist chairman Prachanda, during a meting of the party’s advisory committee, today said Nepali Congress (NC) will lose its moral responsibility to lead the government and it will be directly responsible for deferring the constituent assembly (CA) elections if the parliamentary directives on early republic and fully proportional electoral system are not implemented.
“The NC will to be solely responsible for deferring the CA elections if the parliament decisions are not implemented immediately,” Tilak Pariyar, a member of the committee, quoted Prachanda as telling the meeting at the party office at Buddhanagar.
He said that the NC leadership should be ready to step down from the government. “Now that the ball is in the NC’s court, it is up to the party what to decide,” Pariyar quoted Prachanda as saying. Prachanda also said the NC should act accordingly if it wanted the CA polls held. “Either the parliamentary decisions have
to be implemented or the NC should quit government leadership,” Prachanda said.
The advisory committee members suggested that the seven parties emphasised on “consensus politics”. Pariyar informed that the committee also stressed on the implementation of the parliament’s directives. The meeting that began today will continue tomorrow.
