Kathmandu, November 22:

The second round of talks between the agitating students and the executive body of the Tribhuvan University held here today ended inconclusively.

The students have been demanding that the university cancel the pact it had reached with part-time teachers in August to directly take them into the TU service on contract basis without any selection procedure following a long agitation of the part-time teachers.

The students say fresh graduates will not get a chance to compete for the teaching positions in TU if the part-timers are hired directly into the service.“We will not give up our demands,” said Ramesh Thapa, coordinator of the students’ struggle committee.

The TU executive body, comprising rector, registrar and advisor to the vice-chancellor said the agreement reached with the part-time teachers will not be cancelled.

The agitating students on Sunday torched important documents related to part-time teachers and padlocked the VC Office and TU Service Commission Office as part of their protest. “We will continue the lockout until our demands are addressed,” Thapa said.
