Biratnagar, November 26:
The agitating petroleum entrepreneurs in the eastern region of the country have called off their agitation after the state-run oil monopoly, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), agreed to meet their six demands, including supply of 500,000 litres of petrol a day.
Earlier, the NOC had been providing only 100,000 litres of petrol daily. The petrol dealers had begun agitation on November 18 at the call of the Nepal Petrol Dealers’ Association, eastern regional committee. They had stopped distributing petrol from Sunday. The NOC agreed to meet the demands following two days of talks.
Assistant co-coordinator of the talks team Bhim Ghimire said the NOC agreed to meet the dealers’ demands including regulation of quality by a mechanism that would include representatives of all sides concerned and implementation of the dealers’ code of conduct after amending it by the end of November.
The NOC will give priority to the dealers and the consumers until a next arrangement is made on quality control mechanism and the code of conduct. The NOC has also agreed to open bank accounts in Rajbiraj and Lahan keeping in view with the security of the petrol dealers, who has to go to Biratnagar to deposit the cash.
Chandra Bahadur Dangi, the president of the Association, said they had launched the agitation in the interests of consumers.
