Banks’ security

KATHMANDU: A meeting of senior security officials and representatives of the banking sector on Wednesday agreed to form a Banking Security Measure Reform and Recommendation Task Force to make the security system of banks and financial institutions more effective and check possible criminal activities. The task force led by an SP will have four representatives of the banking sector. It will invite security experts to carry out a detailed study on the internal security system of the banks and financial institutions and present appropriate recommendations. The meeting was attended by top police officials, office bearers of Bankers’ Association and Development Bank Association and Home Ministry officials. — RSS

KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Dr Rishiraj Adhikari to the post of Nepali ambassador to Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. — RSS

Woman murdered

BIRATNAGAR: An unknown group murdered a woman in Belbari of Morang district on Monday night. Mina Bishwokarma, 29, a resident of Belbari-9, was murdered while she was on the way to her home from Monday’s Bazaar in Belbari, police said. She was raped and she might have been murdered to conceal the crime, Santosh Khadka, inspector of the Belbari Area Police Office said after an initial investigation. Villagers had found Bishwokarma’s body in a field. Investigation into the incident is going on, police said. — HNS

Cop shoots wife

SARLAHI: A police constable posted in a police post in Manpur village development committee of Sarlahi district shot his wife dead on Wednesday morning. Shivachandra Prasad Yadav, a resident of Binagara VDC-7 of Rautahat district, shot Jayamala Devi by a gun after an altercation, said Krishna Prasad Sharma, inspector of the Sarlahi District Police Office. He said that Yadav attempted to kill himself by shooting in his abdomen. Injured Yadav has been rushed to the Narayani sub-regional hospital at Birgunj for treatment. — HNS

Govt official attacked

KAPILVASTU: Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Kapilvastu district in-charge Prakash Pandey alias Chakradhari assaulted senior agriculture development officer Abdul Rahman on Wednesday. The officer suffered bruises on his face. Pandey attacked Rahman after a dispute over non-distribution of funds for irrigation schemes. Rahman said later he was insulted and attacked though he had done his duty. — HNS

JTMM-J man held

BIRATNAGAR: Police arrested Morang district in-charge of the Jwala Singh led-Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM-J) Chandan Mishra alias Raj with weapons and ammunition from Biratnagar-16 on Tuesday night. Police said Raj joined the JTMM-Jwala Singh as its district in-charge eight months ago. — HNS

Agitation called off

KATHMANDU: The struggle committee formed by agitating academic institutions of the Valley has postponed its scheduled struggle plans following the assurance from PM Girija Prasad Koirala, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Maoist chairman Prachanda to nab those behind abducting people involved in the education sector within three days. — HNS
