About Shepherd University

Established over 130 years ago Shepherd University has been acting as a comprehensive centre of higher learning in West Virginia. The university has a diverse community of learners and a gateway to the world of opportunities and ideas. It is a centre for academic, cultural and economic opportunity. It is dedicated to its core values: learning, engagement, integrity, accessibility and community.

Degrees offered

The University offers baccalaureate degrees in a wide range of fields such as liberal arts, business administration, teacher education, the social and natural sciences, and other career-oriented areas. The University provides credit courses for individuals that may not be seeking a specific degree, but who seek to broaden and update their knowledge in either familiar or new fields.

Graduate studies

Our graduate programs have been designed to give working adults maximum flexibility at an affordable price with an uncompromising commitment to quality. Most of our graduate courses are offered in the evenings, on weekends, and over the summer. Graduate advisors work with each student to plan schedules, meet deadlines, and progress to graduation in a timely manner.

Currently, Shepherd offers five graduate programs: a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Arts in College Student Development and Administration (CSDA) and a Master of Music in Music Education (MMME).

Scholarships

An institutional scholarship is a scholarship that is awarded by Shepherd University to the student, either by department or by the Scholarship & Financial Aid Committee. All incoming freshman scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions. Renewal scholarship which is termed renewable according to the Shepherd University catalogue include:

Foundation Scholarships, Alumni Association Scholarships, Presidential Scholarships, Valedictorian & Salutatorian Scholarships and Governor’s Academy Scholarships.

TOEFL scores

A minimum score of at least 550 on the paper test or 213 on the computer test is required in TOEFL for admission to Shepherd University.
