Kathmandu, December 5:
Under the leadership of Birendra Raj Pokharel, president of National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal, a team of representatives from organisations working for people
living with disabilities handed over a letter of memorandum to Chief Secretary Bhoj Raj Ghimire, demanding recommendation from the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare to sign the UN Convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities’.
On December 13, 2006, the convention was adopted and has been released for signing and ratification from March 30, 2007. Over 118 nations have signed it, but Nepal is yet to sign.
It recognises the rights of disabled persons.
