Kathmandu:
The most awaited event of the fashion industry of Nepal, Lakmé Nepal Fashion Week started on December 17 at hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza with glitz and glamour. The three-day event began with the theme —shine and shimmer showcasing collections of around 29 designers. To enhance the free spirit of today’s women and make them shine through their individualism the designers had come up with fabulous collection of sexy and chic outfits that promises to make you look glamourous and elegant.
The whole collection of the evening was divided into 10 sequences; Frolic, Black shine, Luxe, Colour of romance, Brocolabelle, Aqua lass, Dazzling diva, Golden glam, Glitzy bond and Shiny disco. All tall and svelte models walked down the ramp decked up in the dresses made out of satin, chiffon, tissue, georgette, lycra, net, cochin, brocade and raw silk with great embroidery, quilting, net detailing, beads and crystal works done on them. The models, both professional and new faces, looked presentable, thanks to the great make up done by ravishing Sneh Rana who herself could give all the models present a run for their money. Actress Khsitiza Shakya looked pretty on the ramp, singer Ciney Gurung carried out the beautiful all black attire with spunk and looked dazzling, actor Deepashan Jung Rana was the only lucky guy to be on the show with all the beautiful ladies around. Beautician Laxmi Shrestha made a pleasant walk with coy smile but the celebrity of the evening was actress Arunima Lamsal who not only looked beautiful in the aqua coloured gown but also had the model like walk and presence. Among all the designers the show-stoppers were the individual designers Khushboo Dangol and Ramila Nemkul Shrestha whose collections will for sure bring the sexy back.
Fashion shows are yet an alien concept in Nepal and that too on a big platform happens once a year. Expecting too much from such shows will not be fair to them. But when any fashion event and Lakme — cosmetic giant of India, well known for the fabulous fashion weeks they have organised in India — come together of course we hope to see something grand. It was not a bad show but could have been a much better and memorable one if they had paid more attention to the small things rather than the bigger picture. The whole ambience looked wonderful, the ramp, the backdrop and the lighting was commendable and of course the glitterati had made their appearance at the show. Yet it was bland like the well-presented dish without salt. Apart from great body and face the attitude and the way to carry out the outfit was lacking among the models as most decided to stare at the floor instead of holding their head high. Most importantly round table never works in fashion shows, not in Paris, New York, Mumbai or Kathmandu. It is a big turn off when light goes off while a model is walking down the ramp, which actually happened at the show.
The theme for December 19 is ‘Free Spirit’.
