Miss Nepal 2007 Sitashma Chand and the first and second runners-ups Bandana Sharma and Bibha Prajapati proved on January 5 that they are also concerned about social issues.

An event entitled ‘Good Morning Tea’ was organised on their initiative at the Yeti Palace, Basundhara, to raise funds for the activities of the Cancer Relief Society (CRF). Chand is a goodwill ambassador of CRS.

Many famous personalities, participated in the programme. The event also raised awareness among the visitors regarding cancer, how we can reduce its chances and treat it. In the end, the event managed to raise a total of Rs 32,531, which will be used in CRS’s awareness campaigns and treating very poor patients.

“Drinking tea has become a lifestyle of people and many of us often spend good amount drinking it outside in restaurants and hotels. If we ‘spend’ the same way here, we are helping towards

a noble cause,” said Girendra Man Raj Banshi from

CRS. The programme also saw a number of people registering themselves as life members of the CRS, following which they were handed certificates.

“I was also involved in an awareness campaign against smoking in various schools and colleges. Today, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of visitors,” she Chand. Regarding the event’s social motive she said,

“the small amount we contribute makes a big difference in the lives of the needy. Coming here and raising fund for the cause has made me proud,” Chand added.
