NT staff in east on stir

Itahari, January 17:

Employees of Nepal Telecom in the eastern region struck work for three hours to protest the reappointment of a transferred head of department.

Staffers halted work from 10 am to 1 pm today after Rampratap Shah, chief of NT’s Rajbiraj office was sent back. Earlier, Surya Narayan Yadav from Biratnagar was appointed to the post.

Bhola Prasad Dahal, eastern regional secretary of the Trade Union Nepal Telecom Workers, said, “The reappointment is against the rules. Shah should have departed within 24 hours. The department regulations dictate that action would be taken against a staffer who does not obey the 24-hour deadline.”

His reappointment is against interests of the staffers here,” Dahal said.
