ANFA-Mayos Cup

LALITPUR:

Bhagbati Thapa and Uttam Khatri scored a goal each as Kathmandu defeated Rautahat 2-0 in the final of the ANFA-Mayos District-level Girls’ Football Tournament here today. Thapa put Kathmandu ahead in the 10th minute when she scored from the edge of the penalty area following Meera Maharjan’s pass. In the 48th minute, Uttam Khatri doubled the score following Maharjan’s corner kick. NSC Member secretary Kishor Bahadur Singh gave away prizes.

White House, Prime win

KATHMANDU:

Binod Shrestha netted 15 points as Himalayan White House International College defeated St Xavier’s College 50-18 in the semi-final of the third Prime Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament. In another semi-final, hosts Prime College beat Brookfield College 98-30, in which Yukta netted 25 points for the winners. Brookfield came into the last four after Martyrs’ Memorial College was ousted from the tournament for hiring the outsiders in their 38-32 win over Brookfield in Wednesday’s quarters. The final will be held on Saturday.

Gurung enters final

LALITPUR:

Suresh Gurung beat Anil Singh 3-1 and entered the Men’s singles final at the Birthday Cup Open Squash Tournament today. Christ Grant beat Mark Harvey 3-0 and and Sudip Bahadur Singh defeated Lal Bahadur Gurung 3-2 to enter the Plate final.

RBB half m’thon on Jan 23

KATHMANDU:

Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) sports committee is organising the Open Half-marathon on January 23 to mark its 40th anniversary. In all, 100 athletes are expected to take part in the event, with the Slogan ‘Race for Peace’. The top-three finishers will get Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively and Rs 1,000 each to the participants who finish the given distance (21-km) within one hour 20 minutes time.

Sports associations meet

KATHAMNDU:

The meeting of national sports associations held under the chairmanship of National Sports Council (NSC) member secretary Kishor Bahadur Singh unanimously decided to hold the elections of all the ad hoc committees by mid April. The meeting, attended by representatives of 26 associations, was held for the first time after NSC row was resolved and also decided not to hold elections of the elected bodies. According to the road-map agreed upon by NSC and Nepal Olympic Committee, the fresh elections of the NOC would be held within next six months. — HNS
