Kathmandu, January 31:

The coordination committee meeting of the seven-party alliance held at the CPN-Maoist’s central office, Buddhanagar, today considered deferring the Free Students’ Union election keeping in mind the April 10 Constituent Assembly polls.

The student organisations affiliated to the seven-party alliance are considering holding the FSU election on February 26 or 28.

“We considered deferring the election of the Free Students’ Union keeping in mind the CA polls. The alliance may request the students’ organisations to defer the FSU election till the CA polls,” said CPN-UML standing committee member Amrit Kumar Bohara at the end of the alliance meeting.

Senior Maoist leader Mohan Baidya aka Kiran said they could not take any decision on vital issues due to the busy schedules of the SPA leaders. He said except the CPN-UML other alliance leaders agreed to defer FSU polls.

He said another round of meeting scheduled for Sunday would discuss announcement of the proposed six commissions and water resources issues, including the government’s latest decision to allow the GMR, an Indian hydropower company, to carry out feasibility study of the 300 MW Upper Karnali and 402 MW Arun III.

Baidya said proposed six commissions would be formed soon following the discussions at the SPA level.

Bohara said they could not take any decision on restructuring the government’s talks team headed by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel.

On Tuesday, the SPA leaders had came up with the idea of restructuring the government talks team to make it more competent and effective.

Bohara added that they reviewed the implementation of the 23-point agreement reached among the partners of the alliance.
