New Delhi, February 15:

India is hopeful that the Constituent Assembly polls will be held on the stipulated date in Nepal, said senior leader of India’s ruling Congress-I Dr Shakhil Ahmed.

Dr Ahmed said this at a press conference organised at the Congress-I headquarters after the three-day visit of Indian delegation to Nepal.

“We support the ongoing peace process in Nepal and democratic path it has followed. We hope the CA polls will held on April 10,” Dr Ahmed said, adding: “The polls should not be deferred again.”

Referring to their Nepal visit, he said: “The leaders of the main political parties have assured us that the CA polls will be held as scheduled.” On the fate of the monarchy, he said: “We would accept the decision of the Nepali people. He also said that Nepali authorities have pledged to the Cong-I leaders that Nepali territory would not be allowed to run anti-India activities.”

The Congress-I delegation is scheduled to submit its report on the visit to Indian PM Dr Manmohan Singh and party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, said joint secretary in-charge of the party’s foreign affairs, Dr Ranabi Thakur.
