Knowing some other language than your mother tongue is always helpful and useful. English has become a necessary language. And speaking it fluently is not always easy. But you can always improve on your English-speaking skills.

Try tape recording your class or conversations in English.

Get involved in English-related community or school activities.

Listen to English news programmes and know current issues.

Watch English movies or music to learn slang and idioms.

Use a dictionary to look up words your don’t understand.

Practice English conversation or pronunciation in a mirror.

Try to think in English as much as possible.

Ask a native speaker to tape-record conversations.

Join class discussions no matter how intimidated you feel.

Interrupt discussions if you don’t understand something.

Try to talk with native English speakers as much as possible.

Don’t worry too much about making mistakes.

Subscribe to English books or magazines.

Set aside time each night to read English.
