SC frees two detainees after CDO apology

Kathmandu, March 23:

Upholding the government’s decision to release two detainees on the Democracy Day, the Supreme Court today released Rajendra Sherchan and Iman Bahadur Gharti.

The duo were taken into the custody by the Kathmandu District Administration Office even

after the government’s decision to release them on the Democracy Day on February 19.

A division bench of Justices Anup Raj Sharma and Ram Kumar Prasad Shah issued the order to release them after Kathmandu CDO Jay Mukunda Dev Khanal had apologised

before the apex court for not submitting explanation regarding their detention on Friday. The court had sought his explanation after Khanal defied the court order and failed to furnish details in connection with the detention.
